The English Nationals Surfing Championships 2007

Headworx English Nationals Surfing Championships

Zoozoo2 youngest team rider competes again this weekend

Jay Smith is only 14 years old and our youngest team rider. This weekend will see Jay strutting his stuff at the English Nationals Surfing Championships . Go Jay

This years championships are being held at Watergate Bay, in Newquay, Cornwall, from May 5 -7, incorporate all age groups and abilities including one of our new young Zoozoo2 rider Jay Smith. The competition, which has new sponsors this year, has 24 divisions including longboard, bodyboard, women’s, senior and legend.

For some it will be their first taste of top level competition, while for others it is an important part of their contest calendar. Becoming English Champion is the perfect start to any contest surfer’s campaign, and this year’s results will affect selections for the English Nationals .

Last year’s winner, Joss Ash, will be determined to defend the title from hundreds of professional surfers, including top British names such as Johnny Fryer, Sam Lamiroy, Matt Capel, Alan Stokes, and this year from his younger brother Reubyn, who is competing as a senior for the first time in a national competition.

The championships showcase the very best talent England has to offer, and with several high profile English surfers competing so well overseas and on the WQS this year, it promises to be the best English Nationals event yet.  We’re stoked to be involved.” The Championships are run by the English Surfing Federation (ESF) - a non profit making organisation dedicated to the support and development of English surfers.

Headworx is backing this year’s contest, which will be its biggest to date with more than 300 surfers battling it out over 24 divisions.

Watergate Bay’s two-mile stretch of beach is well known for the quality and consistency of its surf, and last year the waves didn’t disappoint: competitors enjoyed a weekend of near-perfect conditions.
