What a lifespan June 1, 2006
I have just read that it takes 400 years for plastic to breakdown in a landfill
500 years for a styrofoam cup to decompose
An amazing 1 million years for a glass bottle
200 - 500 years for a aluminium can
50 - 80 years for a rubber boot sole
Up to 50 years for leather
20 - 30 years for a plastic film container
10 - 20 years for a plastic bag
The lifespan of the planet? Well I guess that is up to us all.

T-shirts are for rebels… May 17, 2006
Since way back in the 60’s t-shirts have been there on the front line. Whatever the argument, whatever the cause - politics, Vietnam, union rights, love & peace, punk, you name it, the rebel t-shirt was there. Today, some of the issues might have changed along with a president or two but t-shirts are still saying it loud and proud.
One of today’s big issues, as far as Zoozoo2 is concerned is the environment and fair trade. Some of us are even trying to change the very fabric of the rebel t-shirt.
No longer can we justify wearing traditionally produced t-shirts, …
Little people May 10, 2006
There is an old African proverb it goes…
if many little people
in many little places
do many little deeds
They can change the face of the world.
Well that’s exactly how zoozoo2 feels. It doesn’t matter how small it is just do it.
As surfers, snowboarders and scuba d’s we can play our small part in determining what happens to our planet by the consumer choices we make and the little things we do.

Big blue April 27, 2006
The World’s seas and oceans are home to countless species, from tiny plankton to the great whale. Yet marine life, and the sea on which we depend, surf and swim, is under threat from pollution, over-fishing and other damaging activities.
As surfers and divers what can we do?
The presence of litter such as plastic bottles, crisp wrappers and sewage related debris on beaches and at sea is unattractive, has health and economic impacts on local communities, and is potentially harmful to marine wildlife through entanglement and ingestion.’ [Marine conservation society]
Hundreds of thousands of sea turtles, whales and other marine …
Just be very… April 25, 2006
I heard this somewhere the other week. Can’t remember where. It was to do with starting up in business I think. I just like it.
Be very cool
Be very new
Be very newsworthy
Be very important
Be very useful
Just be very

How do you use your energy? March 28, 2006
Just read a good article in the Guardian newspaper by Leo Hickman while having a cup of tea.
The article was about rising gas prices and it mentioned some interesting facts. For example it said that here in the UK we now routinely heat our homes above 20c (68F), whereas in 1970 the average domestic room temperature was 12.6c (55F). Admittedly, today that would be deemed dangerously low (not in our house, we believe in good woolly jumpers), but some now think nothing of opening a window to cool a room in the winter rather than turn down the heating. Heat …
An easy pickup
Some 11 million tonnes of household and business waste is disposed of via landfill sites in the UK alone every year. I shudder to think what the amount must be worldwide.
All this decomposing waste produces something like a third of the methane emissions contributing to climate change annually.
I’m always amazed at how many people still drop empty drink cartons, sandwich wrappers and other bits of rubbish as they walk along the street.
If we picked up just one piece of street rubbish a day, then literally millions of pieces of rubbish would disappear from our streets each and every …
Power of the pen
One of the easiest ways to support the planet is to sign the petitions and campaigns of others who are trying. By saying and doing nothing we are effectively condoning what is happening all around us.
What sort of world do we really want?
Sign petitions. They will even supply the pen.

On standby
I read in one of the papers over the weekend that your humble TV uses as much power during the course of 20 hours on standby than it does during 4 hours of viewing. So turn it off when your not watching it.
Better still don’t watch the TV at all and get a life.
