National governments setting a fine example to us all! March 28, 2006

Read an interesting article in the New York Times the other day. It was called ‘A gold rush at the top of the world’. The article was basically saying that certain nations including the USA, Canada, Norway and Russia are at last beginning to take the melting Polar ice cap seriously.
Great news I can hear you all say. Unfortunately it seems more a case of unbelievable national self interest and greed than a concern for the planet, the polar environment and its local populations.
Governments are getting excited because the melting ice cap means potential untouched riches ripe for plunder and …

And the rest is history…

Did you know that according to some the beginning of the T-shirt is credited to the navy. The US Navy that is, while other historians say it was The “swabs” in the British Royal Navy who wore them under their uniforms in World War I, some even suggest it was the French Army.
American soldiers liked the comfortable lightweight cotton undershirt compared to the wool uniforms American soldiers wore and the rest is history.

Change what you buy and how you buy it and you can change the world

It’s easy to say. We all talk about being concerned for the environment, but even the most committed green warrior catches trains, planes and automobiles once in a while.
Lobbying your local government official, writing letters to all those greedy corporate giants or taking to the streets in protest probably all seem a little daunting. Maybe we should make it easy on ourselves and start with the small things. All the small things will add up to big things. If we all start doing it just think of the possibilities.
Where do we start
Start shopping locally
Start avoiding unnecessary packaging when …

A bigger surf – A warmer planet

-It sounds perfect; or does it

The subject of global warming is a hot topic and is becoming increasingly difficult to ignore. Young environmentally conscious surfwear and snowboarding retailer ZooZoo2 thinks we should do more to protect the environment.
Climate change
The oil industry lobby try to tell everyone that it is nothing more than either normal environmental change or the ranting of eco warriors bent on destroying their business. The green lobby on the …

Surfers turn autumn green

New startup surfwear retailer, ZooZoo2, is determined to turn autumn green. ZooZoo2.com founded by 12 year old Molly Luke is on a mission to convince fellow surfers and snowboarders that buying organic cotton clothing is the only way forward.
We are what we wear
In these days of global brand loyalty with surfers the world over covered head to toe in those brand logos we all know and love so much, it seems true that we are what we wear. But do we really know or care what we wear, how it is made, what it is made of and who …

Surfing for the planet - 100% Cotton, No thanks

Fledgling surfwear retailer ZooZoo2.com founded by 12 year old Molly and still less than a year old, is trying to teach the big boys a bit about environmentally conscious surf retailing. Unlike many of the big mainstream retailers Molly and ZooZoo2 have decided to sell only organic cotton T-shirts and clothing. This does mean they cost a little more to produce but it is worth every cent, plus, organic cotton T-shirts feel great to wear.
Conventional cotton farming has a seriously destructive effect on the environment.
The simple act of growing and harvesting the one pound of cotton fiber needed …
